Delhivery Ltd (BOM:543529) reported record-breaking volumes in Q1 2027, achieving a 55% year-over-year growth rate driven by strong D2C demand and strategic network investments. During the latest earnings call, CEO Sahil Barua and CFO Vivek Pabari addressed key performance metrics, margin pressures, and the company’s aggressive expansion into new logistics segments.
Express Volume Surge and Market Positioning
Delhivery is currently trending toward the upper end of its 20% to 30% volume growth guidance for the fiscal year. Despite Q1 historically being the slowest quarter, the company saw robust demand that has carried momentum into early August. CEO Sahil Barua attributed this success to broad-based growth, particularly within the D2C and SME segments, where D2C volumes are surging at a 40% to 45% clip. The company is also successfully capturing market share from both smaller 3PL providers and e-commerce players transitioning away from in-house logistics, a trend Barua describes as a “flight to quality.”
Sustainable Yield Improvements in PTL
Addressing concerns regarding the sustainability of Partial Truckload (PTL) yield increases, Barua clarified that the improvement is structural rather than seasonal. Of the INR0.37 yield improvement, only INR0.06 is linked to fuel inflation. The remaining gains are attributed to optimized network quality and scale, with the company expecting these trends to persist throughout the year.
Navigating Cost Pressures and Margin Targets
CFO Vivek Pabari provided clarity on the 300 bps sequential gross margin decline, noting that fuel and manpower costs were primary drivers. While direct fuel impact accounted for approximately 0.6 percentage points, broader inflationary pressures on airline charges and consumables also played a role. However, management remains confident in their FY27 margin trajectory. The company maintains an Express service EBITDA target of 16% to 18%, aiming for the higher end by H2 FY27, while targeting a PTL exit margin of 15% to 15.5%.
SCS Strategy and Quick Commerce Outlook
The sequential decline in Supply Chain Services (SCS) margins was identified as a temporary byproduct of launching two large-scale industrial and consumer durable contracts. These projects, currently in the buildup phase, are expected to stabilize within 45-60 days. Regarding the booming quick commerce sector, Delhivery maintains a disciplined approach. The company focuses exclusively on the supply chain leading up to dark stores rather than last-mile delivery, viewing the latter as an undifferentiated, low-margin service.
New Initiatives: Delhivery Local and Future Growth
Delhivery Local is outperforming initial expectations, reaching a INR150 crore ARR as of July. Given this rapid adoption, management is revising its year-end targets upward while keeping total investment within the earmarked range of INR160-175 crore. Additionally, the company is in the early stages of its financial services arm, having officially secured NBFC approval in July.
