Blue Owl Technology Finance (NYSE: OTF) reported adjusted net investment income of $0.30 per share and a net asset value of $16.48 per share for the second quarter, driven by portfolio expansion, increased leverage, and ongoing share repurchases.
Portfolio Resilience and Market Conditions
The company maintains a robust credit profile, reporting non-accruals at just 10 basis points of fair value at the end of the quarter. Management noted no material stress among borrowers, who continue to report high-single-digit revenue and EBITDA growth.
The lending environment for technology firms has shifted in favor of lenders. As capital availability tightens, Blue Owl is capitalizing on opportunities to secure wider spreads, more stringent covenants, and improved documentation. The firm projects its base dividend will be fully covered by the middle of next year as it deploys capital and optimizes its leverage toward the midpoint of its target range.
Origination and Strategic Focus
President Erik Bissonnette highlighted that the firm made approximately $850 million in new commitments and funded $550 million during the second quarter, while sales and repayments reached $222 million. While primary deal activity remains relatively quiet, the company is actively improving the economics of existing investments when borrowers request additional financing or maturity extensions.
“As high-quality borrowers look to raise additional capital for extended maturities, we are often able to secure wider spreads, enhanced protections, and stronger covenants,” Bissonnette stated.
Diversification: Software, Life Sciences, and Digital Infrastructure
Software remains the primary engine of the portfolio, accounting for 70% of assets. The firm focuses on companies with mission-critical applications and embedded workflows poised to benefit from AI integration. Beyond software, Blue Owl is expanding into life sciences—evidenced by a $700 million platform-wide loan for cancer diagnostics firm Caris—and digital infrastructure, targeting the growing capital needs of data centers and GPU buildouts.
Credit Quality and Asset Structure
The firm’s internal ratings remain stable, with investments rated three through five showing a slight decline to 7.6% of fair value. Over 80% of the portfolio is comprised of senior secured loans, maintaining a weighted average loan-to-value of 40%. PIK income saw a reduction, falling to 12.5% of total investment income from 13.1% in the first quarter.
Financial Position and Dividend Outlook
CFO Jonathan Lamm confirmed a third-quarter base dividend of $0.35 per share, complemented by a final special dividend of $0.05 per share, totaling $0.40. The special dividend is supported by spillover income from portfolio gains. Net leverage currently sits at 0.93x, at the lower end of the company’s 0.9x to 1.25x target range.
Blue Owl also strengthened its balance sheet by completing a $500 million unsecured bond issuance and successfully amending its $2.7 billion revolving credit facility. With all 2026 debt maturities addressed and over $2 billion in available liquidity, the firm remains well-positioned for future deployment.
Commitment to Shareholder Value
During the quarter, Blue Owl repurchased over $55 million in stock, totaling $170 million over the last three quarters. With $195 million still available under its $300 million authorization, the firm continues to prioritize share repurchases alongside its strategic focus on rotating non-income-producing equity into high-yield debt assets.
