Keel Infrastructure Shares Plunge 12% After Q2 Earnings Miss

Keel Infrastructure (NASDAQ: KEEL) saw its stock price tumble more than 12% on Monday after the company released second-quarter financial results that failed to impress investors. The firm, which is currently transitioning from Bitcoin mining to operating next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, faced a challenging quarter marked by significant revenue declines and deepening losses.

Revenue Slump and Legacy Business Struggles

For the second quarter, Keel reported revenue of $30 million, representing a sharp 50% drop compared to the same period last year. While the company has recently divested its Bitcoin mining operations, the legacy business remained heavily impacted by the persistent volatility and slump in cryptocurrency prices, dragging down overall financial performance.

Rising Losses Despite Cost-Cutting Measures

In an effort to stabilize its balance sheet, Keel successfully reduced its operating expenses to roughly $54 million, down from nearly $69 million a year ago. Despite these efforts, the company’s net loss widened to nearly $65 million, or $0.11 per share. This figure notably missed market expectations, as analysts had projected a net loss of only $0.05 per share, even while revenue narrowly outperformed the consensus estimate of $28.2 million.

The Pivot to AI: Progress and Challenges

Management remains focused on its strategic pivot, highlighting that its three priority sites are nearing full permitting status. The company is actively engaged in discussions with multiple potential tenants for these facilities, though it has yet to disclose the identities of these partners.

However, skepticism regarding the transition is mounting. The development of AI-ready data centers is currently facing significant structural bottlenecks, particularly concerning the massive power generation requirements necessary to sustain such infrastructure. As Keel continues its transition, investors appear to be losing patience, especially as competitors in the data center space demonstrate faster progress in scaling their operations.

With the company yet to prove the viability of its new business model, the path forward remains uncertain. For those evaluating the stock, the current lack of operational momentum suggests a period of heightened risk.
