Investors Lose $3.8 Billion on Trump’s Memecoin Disaster

According to cryptocurrency analytics firm Nansen, nearly 1 million investors have collectively lost a staggering $3.8 billion after purchasing President Donald Trump’s $TRUMP memecoin.

The New York Times reports that Nansen’s findings are derived from publicly accessible blockchain transactions, indicating that as of late June, 988,905 accounts experienced losses from the memecoin. This figure suggests that approximately two-thirds of all $TRUMP buyers are in the red.

As of Sunday, $TRUMP was trading at $1.69, marking a dramatic decline of nearly 98% from its peak value of $75.35.

The launch of the memecoin occurred just three days prior to Trump’s inauguration in 2025. Prior to this, Trump co-founded a cryptocurrency venture, World Liberty Financial, alongside his sons. The $WLFI coin associated with this venture has similarly seen a significant drop in value.

In a recent financial disclosure, the president indicated that he profited $636 million from the $TRUMP memecoin, which constitutes nearly half of the $1.4 billion he earned from the crypto sector last year.

During Trump’s presidency, the Securities and Exchange Commission announced it would not categorize memecoins as securities, leading to the dismissal of several lawsuits against crypto enterprises. A White House spokesperson stated to the NYT, “President Trump proudly made the United States the crypto capital of the world.”
